Handling Tabs on Mobile Devices

At a glance

The community members discussed two main approaches for displaying tabs on mobile when they are used on desktop:

1. Display all the content that would have been in tabs on desktop, stacked on mobile.

2. Use accordions instead of tabs on mobile, either by hiding the tabs section and showing the accordion section, or not using tabs at all to accommodate mobile users, especially if the majority of users will be on mobile.

The community members agreed that creating separate sections for desktop and mobile is the best way to handle this scenario.

If I have a section with tabs on desktop, what's the best way to have them on mobile?

Following up on this. Thanks

@Sara Margolies depends on the orientation of the tabs, the content, etc. Generally speaking, you really only have two approaches that work well.

  1. Display all the content on tablet down that would have otherwise been in tabs on desktop, stacked.
  2. Accordions in replace of tabs for tablet down - you can either hide the tabs section and show the accordion section on tablet or not use tabs at all to accommodate for mobile users. Especially if the majority of users will be on mobile.

If anyone else has any ideas, lets hear it!

I hear what you mean. So then it's creating 2 separate sections for desktop and mobile then. right?
